I have to admit, I’m fully devastated that Season 2 of The Sex Lives of College Girls has come to an end. From the exciting addition of brand new characters to the unfiltered portrayal of what college is really like, it’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with the show. If you’re caught up with all the latest episodes, then you know that we’ve been left with a few unanswered questions about the state of our favorite group of best friends, Bela, Leighton, Kimberly, and Whitney. I’m telling you, the season finale left me feeling confused and utterly bamboozled, since there were too many plot twists to count. So, what does the finale of The Sex Lives of College Girls really mean? Spoiler warning: Spoilers for The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 follow.
This season, we know that a lot of things have shifted for our favorite group of college besties. Seriously, these girls are only in their freshman year, and the plot is getting thick. After hooking up and dating a few different women through Season 2, we’re unsure where Leighton’s future is going by the end of the season. We have one bestie who might even want to transfer from Essex, and two more that are stuck in a cold war over a hot barista-frat boy hybrid. So, seriously, what did all of these plot twists mean?
- Will Leighton get back with Tatum or Alicia?
-
After finding herself in a sticky “twincest” situation, Leighton took a leap and started dating a tennis star that looked almost identical to herself. Said lady, Tatum, resembled Leighton a lot, to the point where Leighton began to reevaluate elements of her own character. After offending some of her friends with rude comments and judgements while attending a party during the final episodes of Season 2, Leighton had an inkling that she and Tatum just weren’t meant to be.
No, seriously: Leighton told Tatum that all of her negative qualities showed her exactly what she wanted to change about herself. Ouch, that one had to sting. By the finale episode, we’re left with Leighton telling her ex, Alicia, that she had broken up with Tatum. Eventually, Leighton and Alicia make up and make out.
So, is Leighton going to get back with Tatum? I doubt it, but who’s to say: We’ve all gotten back with an ex before, haven’t we? Leighton explained to Alicia that she’d rather spend her time with her friends at the women’s shelter, doing work to help women and the LGBTQ+ community on the Essex campus.
After quitting her sorority over some unfitting comments made by an alumni, I think Leighton is going to be stepping into a role where she chooses to advocate for what she really believes in heading forward. Working with Alicia at the women’s center might allow them to reconnect for a potential Season 3 storyline, and I’d be here for it.
- Is Bela going to transfer?
-
Phew, one of the biggest bombshells of the Season 2 finale had to be Bela’s meeting with an Essex advisor where she dishes that she wants to transfer schools. Quite honestly, our fun-loving comedic expert has had a rough semester. After cheating on her boyfriend while hooking up with an adult comedian and getting fired from The Proxy magazine, it’s clear that Bela’s at her breaking point.
It’s unclear if Bela is actually going to exit The Sex Lives of College Girls by transferring schools, but I sure hope she doesn’t. To be fair, she hasn’t let Leighton, Kimberly, or Whitney know about this decision, so I’m hoping that her best friends will be able to talk her down from potentially transferring.
- Is Whitney going to stay friends with Kimberly?
-
By the last episode of The Sex Lives of College Girls, we’re left with questions about Whitney and Kimberly’s friendship. If you’re a little lost, Canaan is a boy that used to date Whitney, and after Kimberly works with him at the campus coffee shop, he invites her to attend a banquet with him as his date. Well, long story short, slow burn sparks began flying between the two, and by the finale episode, Kimberly and Canaan share a kiss after a frat party.
What they don’t know, though, is that Whitney saw the entire exchange: She witnessed her bestie and her ex making out. She handles it extremely well (better than I would’ve), and waits for Kimberly to admit what had happened with Canaan the next day. However, Kimberly doesn’t confess, leaving Whitney hurt and confused about their friendship.
At the very end of the final episode, Whitney goes to her sorority sisters and lets them know that she wants to live in the house with them instead of with her best friends, which was a shock. After the four main girls planned to all live together for their sophomore year, it’s obvious that Whitney was hurt by Kimberly and Canaan’s actions, and even more upset that no one decided to be honest about the situation.
If Whitney really does move into her sorority house, I’d assume that her friendship with Kimberly (and the rest of their group) will become extremely distant. Will she confront Kimberly or Canaan? Will Kimberly be honest with Whitney? Honestly, I hope that Kimberly chooses to let Whitney know what happened first, but it’s not looking too promising after that last episode.
- Is Kimberly going to start dating Canaan?
-
OK, the biggest question on everyone’s minds has to be if Kimberly is going to start dating her co-worker and friend, Canaan. Honestly, it’d shock me if Kimberly didn’t start dating Canaan. Kimberly seems like a relationship type of girl, and Canaan seems like he’d be a really good boyfriend. However, with the state of Kimberly’s friendship with Whitney looming over both of them, I think that if they decided to get together, they’d keep it on the down-low.
- Are the girls going to live together during their sophomore year?
-
After a wild freshman year full of ups and downs, our foursome initially agrees on living together for the following school year. It was a long road: At first, Leighton was supposed to live in her sorority house while Bela was set to live with some of her journalism friends. Whitney and Kimberly even made a pact to room together no matter if the other two girls were included in the plans.
However, after Leighton drops her sorority and Bela is kicked out of her role within the magazine — which crumbles her housing plans — the two retreat back to Whitney and Kimberly to live together for their sophomore year. But, when Whitney caught Kimberly making out with Canaan, it’s clear that those plans got even more complicated. We know that Whitney let her sorority know that she actually wanted to live in the house, and Bela even began her own plans on the side to transfer schools.
So, even though all the girls said they’d be rooming it up, it’s clear that both Whitney and Bela have different plans. Honestly, if Kimberly and Whitney don’t find a way to be honest with each other about their feelings concerning Canaan, and if the girls can’t convince Bela to stick it out at Essex, their friendship boat might be sinking. Of course, we’ll have to see how it plays out, but I honestly don’t know how they’d all room together with the current turmoil brewing in their friendships.
Thankfully, we’ll be able to get a follow-up to all of these shell shocking storylines, because Season 3 The Sex Lives of College Girls was confirmed on Dec. 14. In the meantime, I’ll be manifesting good things for all of the characters. Fingers crossed!
