In 2014, we were all about that bass. We went 0 to 100 real quick. We wiggled to our favorite tunes. And it’s not a bad thing that our music experience is more customized now more than ever.
Where are we going with this, you ask? We’ll spare you the corny song title plug-ins. Check out how your favorite songs ranked in Pandora‘s ‘Top Spun Songs in 2014’:
Pandora revealed that on average, we listen to about 20 hours of music a month. (What?!) So, what were we listening to this year…?
At the top, we have “Stay With Me,” “Fancy,” “Turn Down For What,” “Problem” and “Talk Dirty.” Since these were pretty much the anthems of 2014, we don’t have anything to disagree with here. Plus, we already knew Iggy, Sam Smith and Ariana Grande were crushing the charts this year. Most of these don’t surprise us!
Apparently it was also “Summer” all year long for some people. To be fair, it’s a jam—we don’t expect anything less from Calvin Harris. No matter what season, we just want to roll the windows down in our cars and let our hair blow in the wind. Timeless.
Meanwhile, we’re not saying “Bailando” is a bad song, but would you willingly listen to it? We’d probably hit ‘skip’ on that one. We love you, Enrique, but we’re tired of your song. Keep on dancin’, though.
There are some other confusing songs on this list. Anyone ever heard of “Bottoms Up” by Brantley Gilbert? Not us, but evidently, a lot of people out there somewhere. Props, Brantley. Maybe some of these songs really did come at us like a dark horse.
Speaking of which, it’s incredibly surprising “Dark Horse” (or any other song by Katy Perry, for that matter) didn’t make the list! Or our Grammy-nominated girl T-Swift, with her album 1989 dominating the charts and all. We’re also wondering what happened to Beyoncé, stopping the entire universe with her surprise album and all, nbd. And, with the number of times we’ve heard our friend Mr. 305 (AKA Pitbull) on the radio this year, we’re surprised he’s not on this list at least five times. We’re not complaining, though.
Guess we’ll have to see next year!
