It’s that time of the year again! Spotify has officially unveiled its 2023 Wrapped campaign featuring the top artists, songs, albums, and podcasts that people couldn’t help but listen to all year long. This year’s Wrapped was defined by musical artists across various genres, but one singer reigned supreme over the rest, and as no surprise to anyone, it was Taylor Swift.
The singer’s music was listened to continuously by Spotify users around the world, making Swift the most-streamed global artist with more than 26.1 billion global streams since January 1. She also holds the No. 2 spot for the most-streamed global album, thanks to Midnights. Bad Bunny’s album Un Verano Sin Ti is No. 1 with more than 4.5 billion global streams.
This marks Swift’s latest achievement in her long list of accomplishments, so of course, it had to be celebrated! Two days before the launch of Spotify 2023 Wrapped, the streaming service began debuting 21 puzzle pieces filled with Taylor Swift Easter eggs on billboards around the world.
Now that the word is out that Swift was Spotify’s 2023 top artist, a celebratory video filled with nods from the Taylor Swift universe has also been released.
In addition to the global Easter eggs and the video, Spotify added a cool feature that fans can experience right on the app! When playing one of Swift’s songs on Spotify, listeners will notice the progress bar changing to match the track’s Era color before it turns into a sparkle.
While all of this is cool, Swift’s top listeners might have the best surprise of them all. These listeners will receive a special share card and thank you message from Blondie herself. If you made Swift’s music your entire personality in 2023, then you’re definitely in for a treat.
Of course, Swift isn’t the only artist who received a large number of streams in 2023. Singers such as Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake, and Peso Pluma rounded out the top five for the most-streamed artists globally.
As for the most-streamed songs, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” received more than 1.6 billion global streams since Jan. 1, followed by SZA’s “Kill Bill” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who kept “Cruel Summer” on a loop all year! But now that the 2023 Wrapped has been released, it’s time I start finding some new music to listen to while still keeping Swift’s songs on a regular rotation. TBH, her music is my guilty pleasure!
