When Squid Game was released in 2021, it received rave reviews from viewers who couldn’t get enough of the edge-of-your-seat South Korean drama. For the last two years, many have been anticipating Season 2’s release. Though it might be a while before fans get a second season, there’s a spinoff series now on Netflix that might fill the Squid Game void. On Nov. 22, Netflix released reality competition series Squid Game: The Challenge, which is based on the Emmy Award-winning show.
The show consists of 456 players competing in Squid Game-inspired games for a chance to win a grand prize of $4.56 million. Each episode consists of contestants competing in different games, with those failing to complete the challenges getting eliminated. But don’t worry, no one on this show gets killed. Instead, those who fail the challenges have a paintball-like splatter appear on their shirts.
The series begins with 456 players, but that number decreases as the season goes on. Out of all of the people competing for the grand prize, a few contestants stood out among the rest. With Squid Game: The Challenge being a new show, it’s only natural that fans are curious about the cast. Don’t worry, bestie. Before you start scouring Instagram looking for the contestants, I’ve already found some for you! Let’s take a look at the Squid Game: The Challenge cast — and peek into their Instagram profiles.
- Bryton @BrytonConstantin
-
With every reality TV show, there’s always a villain — and Bryton was someone many looked at as such. Right from the beginning, Bryton gave off a very cocky vibe to the other contestants. However, he later explained that he’s just a confident person, and his personality just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Figgy’s one of my favorite Squid Game: The Challenge contestants. Although we didn’t see much of her in the beginning, we soon learned of her budding friendship with Trey and his mom, Leann. She even promised Trey that if he were to be eliminated, she’d watch over his mom. How sweet!
- Trey @choochootreyn

When I first saw Trey, I wasn’t too confident he was going to make it pass the first episode. But he surprised me with his dedication to stay in the game — and he even looked out for his mom, who’s also a contestant on the show.
- leann @nextplay23

I’m a Leann stan! Not only is she super sweet, she’s also caring of other contestants on the show. When she took the time to sit down with Bryton and get to know him better, it just warmed my heart.
- TJ @tjstukes68
-
TJ is another contestant who we didn’t see much of in the beginning. But, when he consoled a contestant who was crying before playing a real-life version of Battleship, that’s really struck a cord with me!
- Jada @itsjadasasha
-
Who else remembers when Jada took the hamburger when everyone else was grabbing fries? I have one word for her: Iconic!
- Yu Hannah Kim @parkour_mama
- Phill @avatarphill
-
I’m getting long-haired Jonathan Van Ness vibes from this guy.
- Phalisia @phalisia
- Chaz @chazroqk

Is it weird to want to be best friends with someone competing on a reality show?
