Students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland are on a boat. Literally.
After discovering mold in two university residence halls, St. Mary’s officials opted to rent a cruise boat to house 240 students that were forced to evacuate their dorm rooms for the remainder of the semester.
After initially being relocated to three hotels in the area, those students are expected to move into the cruise ship this weekend. The expected cost of relocating the students is estimated at $1.5 million, around the same amount as it would cost for them to remain in three separate hotels.
According to the Washington Post, the boat will remain docked along the waterfront of St. Mary’s City. The vessel serves as a fitting temporary home for students, as the college is known to attract students with an interest in sailing.
