Get excited, Tate McRae fans, because the singer announced her sophomore album, Think Later, which will drop on Dec. 8. The announcement comes on the heels of the success of her smash hit “Greedy,” which charted at No. 3 on the Billboard Global 200  and No.14 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. McRae has been working hard to solidify her name as one of the pop girlies to watch out for. The singer also announced she’s headed on a Think Later World Tour in 2024. Catch her in a city near you next summer!Â
McRae has a serious work ethic, which she’s credited to her friendship with fellow pop princess Olivia Rodrigo. In a 2022 interview with ET Canada, McRae said, “I think we’re all very ambitious people, and I feel like if you surround yourself by ambitious people, it’s …going to inspire you.” McRae described Rodrigo as “incredible.” She also mentioned how grateful she is for the friendship and “lucky” to call the “vampire” singer a friend.
You may be wondering when these two became such close friends. I created a timeline of their sweet friendship so you know how this relationship began.Â
McRae and Rodrigo Go Instagram OfficialÂ
On Aug. 11, McRae posted a photo to her Instagram of her posing with Rodrigo and their other two r friends, Madison Hu and Iris Apatow. The picture seems to be a BTS photo taken on the set of the “bad idea, right?” music video in which McRae appeared. In a September 2023 interview with SiriusXM, McRae discussed the video, explaining how Rodrigo texted her asking her to be a part of the video and how she immediately accepted, happy to support her friend. Â
Mcrae and Rodrigo inspire each other.Â
In an interview with PEOPLE published on Oct. 10, Rodrigo spoke about her upcoming GUTS World Tour. She said she’s taking notes from McRae and Indie music icon, Lorde when preparing for her upcoming convert. Rodrigo told PEOPLE, “I went to my friend Tate McRae’s show last night, and it was so much fun. She’s such an incredible dancer (and) incredible singer/songwriter. It got me very excited to start playing my songs for crowds.”Â
Their friendship goes beyond their pop-star personas.  Â
McRae has been on record explaining how fortunate she feels to have a friendship with Rodrigo.
But despite being close, McRae says it isn’t likely the two will make music together. “We would never even think about it (collaborating) whipping out a piano or guitar while we hang out,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in October 2023. “We always want to talk about just nothing.” So, I guess we won’t get a feature from Rodrigo on Think Later. Although a song from these two would make the best sad girl anthem, I respect them for protecting their friendship.Â
