Celine Dion and Taylor Swift are two living legends; Dion is known worldwide for her vocal range, and Swift is absolutely dominating the music industry at the moment. But what happens when two stars are standing side-by-side? Well, after the 2024 Grammys, some folks on the internet believe there’s a Taylor Swift and Celine Dion feud. But, if you ask me, I’m not buying any of it.
According to many social media users, Swift seemingly ignored Dion as she accepted her 2024 Album of the Year award at the Grammys, despite Dion being the one to present the award.
Ignoring a presenter isn’t always the biggest deal in the world, but Dion is battling a rare neurological disorder that affects one or two in a million people called stiff person syndrome. The disease causes progressive muscle stiffness and painful spasms, making Dion’s presence at the Grammys exceptionally rare and special.
Although Swift didn’t have to dedicate her entire speech to Dion, fans were shocked that there wasn’t at least a mention of the “My Heart Will Go On” singer. Fans were also quick to point out that Swift could have done something similar to Miley Cyrus in her speech. In her acceptance speech for the Best Pop Solo Performance, Cyrus explained that she almost missed the event due to traffic — she said she would have been fine missing the event, but not missing Mariah Carrey, who presented Cyrus’ award.
However, it seems like some fans might be ignoring other key moments of the night. Moments before Swift received the award, she was seen applauding and singing Dion’s “The Power of Love” as Dion walked onto the stage, surely as a sign of acknowledging what a big deal it was for Dion to be at the Grammys/ Shortly after receiving the award, Swift and Dion took a photo together embracing one another while laughing. It’s not giving the feud vibe, but maybe that’s just me.
Twitter was extremely quick to point out the difference between Taylor and Miley, and fans aren’t too thrilled with Mother right now.
If you ask me, I think this whole feud theory is a reach. Still, Dion clearly got the love she deserves from the audience.
Here’s a suggestion — let’s just not pit women against each other at every opportunity, OK?
