On its app store description, Tinder boasts that “with 20 billion matches to date, Tinder is the world’s most popular app for meeting new people. Think of us as your most dependable wingman.” It looks like our wingman is stepping up its game once again, as Tinder announces that it will be introducing a new feature called Feed.
Feed is a page of Tinder that will feature all of the people with whom you’ve matched–yes, even that hot guy from last summer who you never got around to meeting up with. The Feed page will look similar to an Instagram feed, but instead of showing you the posts from people you follow on Instagram, you’ll see updates from the people you’ve matched with on Tinder. These updates include Instagram photos, top Spotify Artists and Anthems, and new Tinder photos. You can then reply to your match’s feed updates, and start up a conversation.
Tinder’s blog describes it as, “An exciting new way to see more of what someone is all about by giving you a true glimpse into their world—their passions, their personality, their latest adventure—all leading to better conversations and deeper connections.”
Mary*, a sophomore at the University of Michigan, is hesitant about the feature: “I just don’t feel like I’m going to look at the Feed that much. It feels creepy. I don’t want to know about my Tinder matches on that personal of a level.”
“If I want to follow them on Instagram and Spotify, I’ll just follow them on Instagram and Spotify,” Carly*, also a sophomore at the University of Michigan, agrees.
Regardless of how Feed ends up working out, it will be interesting to see all your matches’ posts congregated in one place. Social media is definitely a great way to get a better feel for a person’s personality.
Feed is currently being tested in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, and there is not yet a set release date for the United States.
