If shows like Love Is Blind and The Bachelorette taught us anything, it’s that reality dating shows rarely create long-lasting relationships. Take E!’s 2016 dating competition dedicated to finding a partner for Travis Kelce, tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, for instance. Catching Kelce followed fifty women from around the country who competed for a chance at Kelce’s heart. After narrowing down his options, Kelce picked Maya Benberry in the end. Though Benberry and Kelce dated for a few months in 2016, they have since gone their separate ways. . But now that Kelce has recently found himself in the spotlight thanks to a potential romance with Taylor Swift, the TV personality has got a few things to say.
ICYMI, on Sept. 24th, Swift was spotted at a Chiefs game hanging out with Kelce’s mom and celebrating his touchdowns while in a VIP booth. This news arrives after a series of clues pointed to a romance between Swift and Kelce.
After Swift’s appearance at Kelce’s game, Benberry spoke on her short-lived relationship with the athlete, while dragging his name through the mud. After insinuating that Kelce’s romantic involvement with ex Kayla Nicole overlapped with their relationship, Benberry issued a warning to Swift directly. “Only time will tell but like the saying always goes, once a cheater, always a cheater.” She added, “Taylor seems like such a fun girl with a beautiful spirit so I wish her the best of luck but I wouldn’t be a girls’ girl if I didn’t advise her to be smart! I’m sure by now she has mastered the ability to see who is really there for her – and who is just using her. I can only hope that she comes out the teacher in this situation and not the student.”
A source close to Kelce later debunked the cheating allegations, calling Benberry “a poor excuse of someone trying to get her 15 min of fame.”
To add to the shade, Benberry accidentally double-tapped a comment that read “beside her fame [Swift] is a 5.” This caused an additional wave of chaos and misunderstandings. But Benberry took to Instagram to address claims she and Swift have any bad blood. Her Campus reached out to Swift’s team for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
“I don’t nor will I ever have any ill intent or negative feelings towards Taylor or their relationship,” she told UNILAD. ”It’s Instagram, and it’s so easy to accidentally like things when scrolling through comments. I would never be that careless or shady to intentionally like something that is tearing down another woman and her looks.”
Naturally, Swifties had some priceless reactions to the situation.
This is just too much drama. Oof.
