I’ve never claimed to be a sports gal, but I did enjoy watching the 2024 Super Bowl. As a diehard Swiftie, I was stoked to see Taylor Swift at the game supporting Kelce, surrounded by her friends and his family. I’m happy she’s found somebody who makes her happy and laugh, but Kelce’s actions at the Super Bowl really bothered me.
Kelce is a passionate player and teammate, but it’s looking like he took it too far during the 2024 Super Bowl on Feb. 11. Earlier in the game, Kelce was seen yelling at Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid after the Chiefs lost a fumble during the second quarter. He was clearly frustrated, and it seemed like he was demanding Reid put him back in the game following the turnover. While I don’t know and will never understand their relationship, Kelce officially is giving me the ick.
A source told Page Six that there were no ill intentions in this interaction, rather “it was all part of the star’s competitive spirit.” But, let’s be honest here: is yelling in your coach’s face, and bumping into him really the best way to show them you want to get back in the game? I think not. Following the Super Bowl, Kelce told ESPN that he was going to keep the conversation “between us” and that he “was just telling him how much I love him.”
I, for one, still find this whole interaction to be odd. Perhaps Kelce is a big tough-love guy, but I think there are better ways to go about this. I was watching the game at a bar surrounded by my college friends, and it seemed that we all had the same reaction. One of my guy friends said, “Travis Kelce is a loser,” while other people were just reacting with things like “What?” and “Why would you do that?” Overall, it seems that we all got the ick from Kelce.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Kelce was acting like this during one of the largest events of the year. One that his girlfriend, friends, and family were also attending. Yikes! Taylor Swift fans didn’t waste time sharing their reactions to Kelce and Reid’s interaction on Twitter.
According to Daily Mail, one user on X/Twitter said, “‘And just like that I’m suddenly less excited about Travis Kelce.’” TBH, I’m right there with them.
This wasn’t the only thing that was giving me the ick, though. Following the Chief’s Super Bowl win against the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce celebrated by screaming “Viva Las Vegas” repeatedly onstage. It appeared that even Swift wasn’t a fan of this.
While I got the ick from Kelce, he did redeem himself a bit when he and Swift sang “You Belong With Me” together at an after-party. If I’ve learned anything from the 2024 Super Bowl, it’s that Kelce is both a lover and a fighter. But he needs to tone it down a bit because I don’t think this is a good look for him.
