Drivers in Western Poland got a not-so-sweet surprise on Wednesday after a tanker carrying liquid chocolate overturned on a highway connecting the cities of Poznan and Warsaw. While it’s unknown why the tanker toppled over, the damage spread to all four lanes of the highway, causing long lines of traffic to build up on both sides.

The tanker belonged to a company from the south of Poland and contained 12 tons of liquid chocolate. No one is sure where the tanker was headed.
As the driver left with minor injuries and no other drivers were hurt, attention has shifted to the bigger mess at hand: the cleanup of the highway.
“We have to remove the truck from the highway first,” Marlena Kukawka, a media officer for the police close to the spillage, said to The New York Times. “It will take a few hours or more.”

Firefighters have been called in to melt the chocolate with influxes of hot water, while bulldozers have taken the job of pushing the sludge away. If the chocolate cools and turns solid, its slippery surface can be more hazardous than snow, according to a spokesman for the fire brigade.
