President Donald Trump held his first solo news conference Thursday and his comments and actions left the Internet seething, to say the least.
Reporter: Will you meet with the Congressional Black Caucus?
Trump: “I would. You want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?” pic.twitter.com/8Pp18KBUJdâ BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) February 16, 2017
As reported by Buzzfeed News, reporter April Ryan asked Trump if he would meet with the Congressional Black Caucus. Trumpâs response? He asked if the Congressional Black Caucus were friends of Ryanâs. âWell, I would. I tell you what, you want to set up the meeting? Do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?â said Trump.
Even after Ryan explained that she was a reporter, Trump still insisted and said, âLetâs go, set up a meeting. I would love to meet with the black caucus. I think itâs great. The Congressional Black Caucus. I think itâs great.â
The internet was understandably and unsurprisingly unhappy with the exchange and took to Twitter to express their disdain.Â
Trump: Can you set up a meeting w/ the Blacks for me

“Hey April Ryan. Aren’t they all your cousin or something. Invite me to your family reunion. Can you fix that? GREAT”

April Ryan also had something to say and she tweeted a response to Trump.
I am a journalist not a convener! But thank you for answering my questions. https://t.co/fe9cGXG46w

At the same press conference, Trump also called a Jewish reporter a liar and told him to sit down after the reporter asked him about a rise in anti-Semitism.
Jake Turx, the senior White House correspondent for Jewish publication Ami Magazine, asked how Trumpâs administration would respond to bomb threats issued against dozens of Jewish community centers last month, according to Buzzfeed News. Trump said that question was not âsimple or fairâ and told Turx to sit down. He also called Turx a liar and went on a rant about being attacked and called anti-Semitic.
âSee, he lied aboutâhe was going to get up and ask a very straight, simple question. So, you know, welcome to the world of the media,â Trump said. âI hate the charge. I find it repulsive. I hate even the question because people that know meâand you heard the Prime Minister, you heard Benjamin Netanyahu, did you hear him, Bibi? He said, âIâve known Donald Trump for a long time,â and then he said, âForget it.â So you should take that instead of having to get up and ask a very insulting question like that.â
The internet obviously had something to say about this exchange as well.
Trump: “I am the least antisemitic person you’ve ever seen.”
Jewish reporter: “But-“
Trump: “QUIET QUIET QUIET. You are a liar.”

Amidst all the stomach turning moments of yesterday’s press conference, this is perhaps the hardest to watch. https://t.co/qkoUtel1nN

Reporter: What is your plan to address the rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the US
Trump: I HAVE JEWISH FRIENDS
