Above Average, an digital-first entertainment company with ties to SNL creator Lorne Michaels, may have released their most controversial comedy skit yet. “Rapists Now Have Their Own Recovery Center” satirizes the compassion that rapists often receive after they’ve been accused, as if they were the true victims of the situation. The worst thing is, the idea of a rapist recovery center is actually kind of believable in our current culture—emphasizing the problem that the skit is trying to combat. Remember how the judge in Brock Turner‘s case felt so bad for Turner that he gave him far less than the minimum sentence for his crimes? This video humorously demonstrates how society has failed rape survivors—the real victims—by treating their attackers with much more sympathy than they’re owed.Â
