Warning: Netflix Does Not Want You to Try the ‘Bird Box’ Challenge

There probably should have been a “don’t try this at home” disclaimer when Netflix released the Sandra Bullock film Bird Box.

Since the thriller’s December 21 release, it has inspired the #BirdBoxChallenge. The challenge features people trying to daily (and at times harmful) tasks while their eyes are blindfolded. Characters in the movie wear blindfolds to protect themselves from some unseen force that takes over people’s vision. And while some people have tried to do their day-to-day chores around their homes, others have tried more dangerous moves like running into traffic or having children run into walls

After the challenge went viral, Netflix released a statement on Wednesday via Twitter, asking people not to put themselves in danger over the challenge.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” the streaming company tweeted. “We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”

But the post still inspired some Twitter users to attempt the challenge.

Some are ready to put this challenge to bed.

Netflix announced in December that the film became the streaming service’s most-watched film in only seven days. “Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037, 125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box—best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film!” Netflix tweeted.
