Last Friday, Netflix released the much-anticipated remake of a much-loved â90s sitcomâbut with a few small differences.
A darker take on the beloved Archieâs Comics character from the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Netflixâs new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not for the faint of heart.
Just like the original, Sabrina is a teenager being taken care of by her witch aunts Hilda and Zelda, but this one has a little bit more gore, a bit more Satan-worship, a bit more drama and a lot more intense romance. So itâs not surprising that when the original cast saw some of the new show, they were a bit taken aback. Sabrina (Melissa Joan Hart), Harvey (Nate Richert), Aunt Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Aunt Zelda (Beth Broderick) all sat down to watch scenes from Chilling Adventures of Sabrinaâand if the screaming is any indication, they found it a bit scary.
Caroline Rhea pretty much summed it up with a quick, âItâs terrifying, this show.â While watching a scene where Sabrina, played by Kiernan Shipka, starts making out with her boyfriend Harvey (Ross Lynch) former-Aunt Zelda Beth Broderick yelled, âThis is not our Sabrina.â
Melissa Joan Hart decided that she wonât be letting her own kids watch it anytime soon. With all the blood, supernatural creatures, intense relationships and drama that fill the show, we really canât blame her. Although, she did admit that they might like the new version better.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is certainly is a far cry from the funny but not-as-Satanic-or-terrifying original. But, honestly, we wouldnât expect anything less from the creator of Riverdale.
