Sped-up versions of songs are dominating the TikTok app lately, and the song “Weak” by American R&B vocal trio SWV is no exception. In the new “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend, creators use the sped-up version of the song to show who they’re simping over, whether it’s Kit Connor from Heartstopper or Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things. Creators have also been using the trend to reveal their green flags for romantic relationships, like when their crush has good fashion sense or their significant other has a mustache (Miles Teller in Top Gun: Maverick, anyone?).
Part of what has made the trend so popular so quickly is that it’s super easy to recreate and try out yourself. Here is everything you need to know about the “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend, including where it originated, how creators have been using the viral sound, and how to try it yourself at home.
Where does the trending sound come from?
The trending sound is a sped-up version of the song “Weak” by SWV and was originally posted to TikTok by user @.monnieflms.
The catchy R&B song was originally released in 1992 and was SWV’s third single, and is arguably their most famous and well-known song. The chorus, which is the part included in the now-viral trend, goes, “I get so weak in the knees, I can hardly speak (I lose) / I lose all control and something takes over me (Control, takes over me) / In a daze and it’s so amazing (Amaze) / It’s not a phase (It’s not), I want you to stay with me (Stay with me) / By my side, I swallow my pride (My pride) / Your love is so sweet.”
The song is a bop on its own, iconic and reminiscent of its time, but something about the sped-up version makes me weak in the knees, personally.
In the “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend, creators are… well, weak in the knees.
In the viral “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend, creators are full-on simping over both their celebrity crushes and significant others. Whether creators are swooning over actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld or sharing their favorite thing about their significant other, the “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend is both sweet and wholesome.
However, creators are also poking fun at the popular trend. User @allisynmichelle jokingly shared that what makes her weak in the knees is when her significant other does “the bare minimum,” while user @m5ylin admitted that her crush giving her “the slightest bit of attention” makes her weak in the knees.
When scrolling through the trend, I found that one of the most popular celebrities that creators are simping over is actor Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington in Stranger Things — so, if you do try to recreate the trend yourself, maybe spare Joe Keery and give another celebrity some love, you know? Like, we all love Joe Keery, don’t get me wrong — but we get the hype already, bestie.
Recreating the “Weak In The Knees” TikTok trend is easy.
This viral TikTok trend is easy to try yourself, which is part of what has made it so popular. First, think of your favorite celebrity crush (mine would be Harry Styles, personally) or your number one green flag in a romantic relationship. Then, start the video by saying something like, “I don’t get weak in the knees for anyone,” or “Nothing makes me weak in the knees” to the camera. As the song continues, turn around so your back is facing the camera and walk away while wobbling, mimicking being “weak in the knees,” and type out whatever (or whoever) makes you weak in the knees. If you’re feeling dramatic, you can even add a fall at the end — but be careful! We don’t want a repeat of the “I’m Sat” TikTok trend.
