You’ve heard of sweet and sour, but have you heard of sweet and cheesy? McDonald’s new Camembert donuts are flying out of the kitchen and making their way into European hearts.
A soft, gooey cheese similar to Brie, camembert serves as a smooth filling to this McDonald’s twist on the ever-glorious mozzarella stick. This time, the cheese is fried in breadcrumbs and served with a sweet cranberry sauce.
“What shouldn’t be missing in a perfect BBQ?” reads McDonald’s German website. That’s right —unfortunately, these goodies are currently only offered Germany, sold at 3.99 Euros a piece. That’s about $4.90 in American dollars for a box, which the franchise claims is “perfect for sharing.” But with just seven of these golden, delicious donuts per order, is sharing really an option?
While the fried cheese and fruit pairing might be foreign to us, TasteForTaste notes that this combo is especially common in Germany. This explains the hype around the new “treat” among German residents — skip to 1:20 below to watch this happy customer enjoy some donuts.
Even if they’re different from the McDonald’s fries we all know and love, we’re still hoping to get our hands on some camembert goodness. Hopefully McDonald’s brings them overseas before we start looking at plane tickets.
