What to Watch on Netflix When You’re Having a Bad Day

Whenever you’re having a bad day, it helps to come home, crawl into bed with a bunch of blankets and drink a glass of wine while watching Netflix. We all have a go-to list of shows and movies that are perfect to boost our mood. Here are 15 top picks on Netflix for those days where you need that extra pick-me-up.

1. Gilmore Girls

Watching Gilmore Girls pretty much demands that you eat lots of junk food, laugh along with their witty banter and forever relate to Luke’s perpetual grumpiness.

2. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Some days you need to take a page out of Bridget’s book. Drown your sorrows in ice cream while helplessly relating to all of her struggles with dating.

3. GLOW

A binge-worthy show that features hilarious, badass women that’ll inspire the hell out of you to embrace your independence.

4. Heathers

This is the perfect dark comedy to watch anytime, no matter what mood you’re in.

5.  Stranger Things

This outrageously good ’80s-inspired series is perfect to watch in one sitting, especially wrapped up in a pile of blankets (which are good to hide under when things get a little too spooky).

6. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Kimmy’s unshakeable enthusiasm and joy about everything are basically infectious.

7. Sing Street

This movie is about a group of Irish boys who start a band to impress a girl—and it’s nothing but enjoyable. It’ll put a smile on your face in the middle of midterms.

8. New Girl

One word: Schmidt.

9. 13 Going on 30

The best romantic comedy for anyone who loves happy endings.

10. Freaks and Geeks

Funny, relatable and easy to watch since there’s (sadly) only one season.

11. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a classic for a reason. It’s inspiring and heartwarming, not to mention quotable. Run, Forrest, run!

12. Orange Is the New Black

Every episode of Orange Is the New Black has me hooked and desperate to find out what happens next. It’s funny and surprisingly emotional—two things that go together well.

13. Moana

An inspirational Disney movie with adorable sidekicks and songs that you’ll sing along to—what’s not to love?

14. One Small Hitch

A really good romantic comedy always cheers me up, and this is one of the best I’ve found on Netflix.

15. The Office

When in doubt, put on The Office. Laugh at Dwight and ugly-cry over Jim and Pam’s relationship.

Netflix really does its job when it comes to cheering you up.
