Omar Isn’t In ‘Elite’ Season 6, But That Doesn’t Mean He’s Gone For Good

As one of Netflix’s more popular foreign-language shows, Elite returning for Season 6 on Nov. 18 had fans hyped to return to the halls of Las Encinas and all the drama within. The show is known for its high-stakes storylines (they’re one show that’s unafraid to kill characters off, that’s for sure) and its rotating cast, which adds new actors each season and lets some others go. In fact, when Season 5 premiered in April 2022, Samuel (Itzan Escamilla) and Omar (Omar Ayuso) were the only characters from Season 1 that were still on the show. Samuel’s fate became pretty clear at the end of Season 5, but fans might be surprised to know that Omar also isn’t in Elite Season 6. So why isn’t he there, and is that the last we’re going to see of him? Spoiler warning: Spoilers for Seasons 5 and 6 of Elite follow.

When Netflix announced the cast for Elite Season 6, Ayuso’s name was noticeably missing, and he didn’t appear in the Season 6 trailer, either. He’s not the only one: In addition to Omar and Samuel, Rebeka (Claudia Salas) and Cayetana (Georgina Amorós) were saying goodbye to the show. Samuel got a pretty clear send-off, with his character having died at the end of Season 5 (if you can’t remember, he and Benjamín get into a fight and Samuel hits his head when he’s knocked over the edge of a pool). Elite’s official Netflix account even made a goodbye post for him after Season 5 came out. But Omar’s fate is a little less clear.

Omar ended Season 5 rather traumatically — not only does his best friend Samuel die, but he also discovers the body of Armando, Season 4’s murder victim. We’re not really given much of a chance to see him process this, however, because by the time Season 6, Episode 1 rolls around, the show is choosing to focus on other characters, like Ari, Iván, and Isadora. While it’s not explained at the top of the season, it kind of makes sense — almost all of Omar’s friends on the show were characters from earlier seasons who have also since exited. And, come on, Omar’s been in high school for five seasons now; it was bound to start getting unrealistic the longer he stayed.

Ayuso hasn’t made any public comment on his absence from Season 6 as of yet, but luckily for fans, that doesn’t mean he’s totally slammed the door on returning to Elite. In fact, Elite has already been renewed for a seventh season, and guess who made an appearance in Netflix’s announcement video? Yup, Omar is back for Season 7, as the only original star who’s returning. So at least we know he’s alive (which, honestly, is not a given when it comes to a show like Elite).

With Omar’s return imminent in Season 7, you can probably focus for now on the ensemble cast of Season 6, which has grown with the addition of five(!) new characters. One thing’s for sure — as the cast gets shuffled around and new storylines get added, Elite will always keep viewers on their toes.
