The ‘Anyone But You’ Filming Locations Are On My Travel Bucket List

Every great romantic comedy has these three things: sizzling chemistry between the leads, the ultimate flirty vibes, and dreamy filming locations. After watching the new rom-com Anyone But You, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, I can confidently say that this film checked all of those boxes, and then some!

Anyone One But You follows Bea and Ben (played by Sweeney and Glenn Powell respectively) who unexpectedly find themselves pretending to be a couple while attending a destination wedding in Australia. The only problem: Bea and Ben hate each other. As the wedding weekend goes on, the pair find end up in some ridiculous — but oh-so-hilarious — situations, which eventually brings them closer together. Throughout the film, several of Australia’s most touristy sights are seen in the background. Even first-look photos from the film feature one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks: the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

If you watched the film, then you’ve definitely recognized some of the filming locations, which can all be visited if you ever find yourself in Sydney (the city)!

The Sydney Opera House

There’s a scene in Anyone But You where Sweeney and Powell’s characters have a Titanic moment while on a yacht in the Sydney Harbour. Serving as the background to this scene is the Sydney Opera House, which can be seen several other times throughout the movie.

This location also played a major role in the first-look photos released while the movie was still in production, which showed Sweeney and Powell on the steps of the Opera House.

The Sydney Harbour

The Sydney Harbour was another location that was featured in a couple of scenes in Anyone But You. However, one scene had Sweeney and Powell navigating the shark-infested water on top of a buoy… in the dark!

“A big part of the movie was filmed in Sydney Harbor on a boat with [Sweeney and Powell] floating on a buoy in the middle of the harbor at night,” director Will Gluck told Entertainment Weekly in November 2023. “Initially they wouldn’t give us permission because it’s a huge shark area and people get hurt by sharks all the time there.”

Gluck added, “It was a little bit scary and strange at 3 in the morning with our actors swimming into a shark tank, knowing that they’re at a place where sharks like to hang out.”

the Queen Victoria Building

While Ben and his friend Pete are on their way to pick up flowers for the wedding, they are seen walking along George St, which is just outside of Sydney’s iconic Queen Victoria Building.

Marks Park

The wedding scene was filmed entirely at Marks Park in Tamarama, Sydney. According to ELLE, the park is located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Palm Beach

Anyone But You features stunning beach scenes, which were all filmed around Sydney’s famous Palm Beach. The location is a suburb in the Northern Beaches and, according to Gluck, shooting at Palm Beach took place over 10 days.

He and the cast enjoy all that the beach had to offer, even when the cameras weren’t rolling.

“Our caravans were parked right on the water, and Glen and Sydney and I decided to live there the whole time,” Gluck told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2023. “We’d shoot all day and all the crew would go home, then we’d jump in the water and have a swim, go to our trailers and have dinner sitting outside. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, and you normally wouldn’t be allowed to sleep there. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had filming.”

Terrey Hills

Although the beach scenes were shot at Palm Beach, the scenes inside the huge beach house were shot somewhere else — Terrey Hills to be exact, which is about half an hour inland from Palm Beach.

“We needed a really, really big house — the magic of movies. It turns out Australians aren’t ostentatious, so they don’t have gigantic beach houses,” Gluck explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “They also understand that building houses right on the beach is not ideal.”
