Spoiler warning: Spoilers for Never Have I Ever Season 4 follow. The big question everyone wants answered is, who will Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) choose? Our Sherman Oaks favorite has finally decided to follow her heart. Devi hasn’t always had an easy love life, and we have seen her kiss quite a few frogs before finding her prince. Although some fans may be shocked, this epic finale made the journey well worth it.
Throughout the seasons, one particular love interest has remained consistent throughout Devi’s life: Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison). When the nerdy pair aren’t in competition with each other, you can easily envision their future together. They always seem to have one another’s back, no matter how drastic the situation may be. Their compatibility is pretty strong, according to the Valentine’s Day episode in Season 3. It’s no secret Ben and Devi have had a tumultuous relationship. They’ve dated other people, found each other, and then broken up again. The Season 4 finale ends their saga of on-again, off-again drama, solidifying them as endgame.
That’s not to say that Devi doesn’t entertain her other options before the ending, however. During Season 4, Devi briefly explores her relationship with Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet). Paxton returns to Sherman Oak High School as an assistant swim coach, complicating their dynamic. Devi is still attracted to Paxton and even comes close to having sex with him. They don’t go all the way after being caught by the head coach of the swim team (awkward). Once Paxton gets called in after his questionable actions, he and Devi agree they are better off as just friends.
Devi also has a fling with Ethan (Michael Cimino) during Season 4, the new “Sherman Oaks heartthrob and bad boy.” The two start seeing each other after Devi becomes close to Ethan when she finds out he unknowingly vandalized her car. Ethan plays a pivotal role in Devi entering her young womanhood and liberating herself sexually. However, the two don’t last long after she discovers Ethan is responsible for stealing the Princeton recruiter’s wallet at the college fair.
Ben also has a relationship of his own in Season 4. He dates Margot (Victoria Moroles), who is artsy and “too cool” for Ben. Victoria and Ben start dating after Devi loses her virginity to Ben, so naturally, Margot makes a spot for herself on Devi’s enemies list. Margot and Devi have a few showdowns throughout the season, making things uncomfortable for Ben. Ben and Margot end up not working out after he realizes Margot may never fully accept him for who he is.
Despite their many ups and downs not only through Season 4 but the entire series, Devi and Ben found themselves together again. Only a state away at Princeton and Columbia, hopefully, we’ll one day see what their relationship and lives look like navigating college life on the East Coast — if we get a spinoff like fans are hoping for.
