What We Know About ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ Possibly Getting A Season 2

Unless you’ve been out of the loop, you’ve likely heard about Netflix’s newest reality competition series Squid Game: The Challenge. The show is a spin-off of  Netflix’s Emmy-winning scripted drama Squid Games. The reality show follows 456 contestants as they compete in a series of Squid Game-inspired games for the chance to win a cash prize of $4.56 million. Each episode consists of the contestants participating in a different game, with those failing to complete the challenges getting eliminated. The elimination process isn’t as intense as portrayed in the original show. When contestants fail to complete the child-like games, they are hit with paintball-like splatters on their shirts.

The real-life Squid Game has taken over the world and left fans wanting more. With the Season finale set to premiere on Dec 6, many want to know if there will be a Season 2. I did some digging, and here’s what I found.

Will there be a second season of Squid Game: The Challenge?

On Dec. 6, ahead of Squid Game: The Challenge‘s finale, Netflix announced that the show has been renewed for a second season.

“There was no red light in our decision to green light Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series, said. “We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”

It’s also been revealed that the search for a new group of 456 players is officially underway. If you or someone is interested in joining Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2, you can apply at SquidGameCasting.com

Before the show’s Season 2 renewal was announced, executive producers Stephen Lambert and John Hay, confirmed they had talked with Netflix about doing a second season of Squid Game: The Challenge but told, Entertainment Weekly, that it all depended on how the Season 1 finale performed. “Netflix will publish numbers for the first week…if they’re good, who knows, maybe they’ll want to do another season,” they said.

Before the renewal, recent allegations against the show made some question if the Netflix could hesitate to continue the series.

According to reports, a few eliminated anonymous contestants suffered “inhumane” conditions throughout the filming process. Some of the claims have been proven to be inaccurate and executive producer Hay told EW, “The physical and mental well-being of the players was always a priority during the shoot.”

Now that we know Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 is coming, I can’t wai to see a new group of contestants taking on the challenge for a chance to win the grand prize. So far, there’s no word on when Season 2 will be released, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for any new information.
