Every Relationship In ‘XO, Kitty’ Season 1, Because It Gets Confusing

I’m obsessed with XO, Kitty. I’ve binge-watched the entire season since it premiered on May 18, and now I’m eagerly awaiting news of a possible Season 2 — especially with all of the cliffhangers and unresolved problems. Spoiler warning: Spoilers for Season 1 of XO, Kitty follow.

There’s definitely trouble in paradise, as the couples and possible pairings are even more complicated than the drama in XO, Kitty. While Kitty and her love challenges serve as the show’s plot’s primary component, Kitty has more than one relationship problem! Even the show’s supporting characters face relationship difficulties. It took a long time for me to figure out who was still with whom, who liked whom, and who had already split up.

The series has so many love triangles and relationship issues that it warrants its own article. So, to spare you some time, I’ve created a list of all the couples featured in the first season. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about spoilers.

Kitty & Dae

Considered the OG pairing of the bunch, Kitty and Dae’s connection is the first one that we as viewers are aware of prior to seeing the events of the series. If you recall, in the third To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before film, Always and Forever, Kitty met Dae after traveling to South Korea with the family in pursuit of the heart locket their mother left at the Love Lock Bridge.

There, she met Dae, and the two began to form a romance that is still blossoming in the present. When Kitty travels to KISS, an elite private school in South Korea, and is reunited with Dae, she discovers that Dae is now in a relationship with Yuri (which we, the audience, understand is a contractual relationship).

After Dae’s fake breakup with Yuri at the end of Episode 7, Kitty and Dae are free to go back to their official relationship. Kitty gradually falls out of love with Dae in the following episodes as her feelings for Yuri grow stronger, however, and she eventually tells him this at the beginning of Episode 10. Dae makes one final attempt near the conclusion of Episode 10 by traveling to the airport before Kitty’s flight to confess that he would continue to fight for their relationship.

Before he can, Kitty informs him that she didn’t regret coming to Seoul and that Dae was the ideal first boyfriend, therefore sealing the fate of the relationship and seemingly closing the chapter between the two.

Kitty & Minho

Throughout the first season, Minho and Kitty were obvious enemies; however, once Minho dreams about Kitty in Episode 6, we learn that he actually has a huge crush on her. He rekindles his affection for her after breaking up with Madison (more on her later) and even saves her when her hanbok catches fire during the end-of-term talent performance.

When Kitty boards the plane to return to the United States in the final minutes of the season, she coincidentally sits next to Minho, who is also planning to see his mother in the United States. There, he admits to Kitty that he’s fallen in love with her… and the season ends. I’m completely surprised right now.

Kitty & Yuri

In Episode 6, Kitty goes to Minho’s Madness Party to try to drown out her feelings for Dae by finding someone to have her first kiss with. Yuri ends up DJing and performing a set at the party. Kitty is almost mesmerized by Yuri’s performance and begins to develop feelings for her. She even has a dream about them together later that night.

Kitty’s feelings become stronger as their friendship grows, and she almost spills the beans to her while the two are in the practice room for the end-of-term talent show. In Episode 10, Kitty attempts to confess to Yuri (who, I may add, is waiting for Juliana’s arrival.) once more before boarding her flight, but is interrupted when Juliana reappears at the terminal and reunites with Yuri.

Yuri & Dae

Yuri and Dae’s relationship is nearly entirely business-related, since Dae needs the relationship to continue attending KISS since Yuri pays for his tuition, and Yuri needs the relationship to keep her parents from presuming her relationship with Juliana. Talk about relationship drama! When it’s discovered that Principal Lim purposefully sent Juliana to Oakham to prevent her from meeting Yuri, Dae and Yuri break up in front of the press. Despite their breakup, though, they remain close friends.

Yuri & Juliana

While we don’t get to witness much of this relationship develop over the season, we do know that Juliana and Yuri are officially together. The only time we see the couple together in person is in Episode 3, when Juliana tells Yuri that her parents are sending her to Oakham.

Throughout the series, the two continue to call and text, but their connection is slowly straining as Juliana becomes concerned that Yuri has been talking a lot more about Kitty and worries whether the two are getting closer. In Episode 10, we see the two reconnect as Principal Lim sends Juliana back to Korea to continue their relationship, but the question is whether they will remain a happy pair.

Minho & Madison

Madison and Minho’s relationship ended as quickly as it began. Madison, who has had a crush on Minho since the beginning of the season, finally gets her wish when Minho kisses her during his Madness Party. During the class camping trip in Episode 8, the two appear to break up as Madison does not want a serious relationship and Minho realizes that he does.

Q & Florian

Kitty uses her matchmaking skills yet again, this time on her former pen pal Q and his crush Florian. She gets things rolling by switching lab mates so that the two can work together in science class. Q and Florian’s relationship develops after the binge-watch date, when Florian suggests that for the next party, they watch the movie alone.

The pair’s relationship stays totally cute throughout the series, but as Florian deals with the problems of his separating parents, a divide forms between them. The relationship suffers as it comes out that Florian has been cheating at school, and Q is unsure of what to do next: expose the truth or defend his boyfriend.

Professor Lee & Principal Lim

So, what really happened during the Class of ’94? While it was never formally acknowledged, we know Professor Lee and Principal Lim were in a relationship because Teacher Alex is their son and Yuri’s half-brother. We also see a connection between the two: The song “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” plays while they shut down Minho’s Madness Party. The two stare at each other as the song fades away, almost as if reigniting some old flames. I don’t know about you, but I’m dying to find out what happened between the two; can news of Season 2 come any sooner?
