This Monday, over 20 witnesses testified at a preliminary hearing for the Yeardley Love case. Love was a lacrosse player and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta at U-Va. last year. On May 3, 2010, she was found unresponsive in her Charlottesville apartment after being attacked. Her on and off boyfriend, George Huguely, was charged with her murder.
The presiding judge over the Monday hearing ruled that there was enough evidence against Huguely to move the case forward in the legal process to be heard by a grand jury. The case will be heard later this month.
Many of you remember the coverage of Love’s death in the news almost a year ago. At the hearing Monday, witnesses testified about the turbulent relationship between Love and Huguely, and the fact that Huguely had been drinking heavily the day Love was attacked. Her story is tragic and serves as a reminder to all college girls that worst case scenarios do happen.
What do you think of Love’s story? Has your opinion changed since news of her death first broke? Is there anything to be learned from this awful incidence of domestic violence?
All of us collegiettes here in Virginia and across the States continue to send our condolences to Love’s family and friends in this difficult time.
