Fans of Grey’s Anatomy, get ready to enter freakout mode: On Tuesday, ABC announced that it has given a straight-to-series order to a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, which is set to premiere on the network early next year.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the series, which is currently untitled, will revolve around Seattle firefighters, both on the job and in their daily lives—think the drama of Grey’s but firefighters, instead of doctors, doing the all the life-saving.
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” ABC chief Channing Dungey told EW.
Of course, Shonda Rhimes will be heavily involved as a producer, and Stacy McKee, who’s known for her work on Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder (meaning she’s become a master of Shondaland), will write the script. The series is set to launch from a specific future episode of Grey’s Anatomy, in case you needed any further reason to stay up-to-date with the show religiously.
