Ryan Gosling Put His Love for Eva Mendes on Full Display in His Golden Globes Speech

Ryan Gosling doesn’t need to do much for me to love him, but he still made me swoon all over when he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his role in La La Land. What was becoming a true fangirl moment turned out to be a little more emotional when Ryan began his heartfelt acceptance speech (after making a Ryan Reynolds joke, as you do).

Ryan and his partner Eva Mendes are pretty private for a celebrity couple, so when Ryan delivered a speech entirely focused on Eva and their two daughters, it was an interesting surprise for everyone. “When I was singing and dancing and playing piano,” Ryan explained of his award-winning role, “my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer.”

“If she hadn’t taken all that on so I could have this experience [someone else would be up here],” Ryan shared. “Sweetheart, thank you.”

Hear that? That’s a million people around the nation weeping at this sign of true love.

If that admiration for Eva wasn’t enough to make the mood at the Globes turn poignant, Ryan signed off by dedicating the award to Eva’s brother Juan Carlos Mendes, who eventually died of cancer this past April, People reports.

Here’s to Eva for being an incredible mother, sister and girlfriend from behind the scenes, and props to Ryan for recognizing just how strong his lady is. Totally an award-worthy couple.
