There has been a Pretty Little Liars-shaped hole in our hearts since the show ended last year, but yesterday actress Sofia Carson gave us something to satisfy our appetites.
Carson, most notable for playing the Evil Queen’s daughter Evie in Disney Channel’s Descendants movies, was cast as one of the leads in the PLL spinoff, titled Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, and she gave us our first look at the upcoming series. PLL’s Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish will be returning as well, according to Deadline.

PLL’s official Twitter released a sneak peek pic as well, meaning THIS IS REAL and THIS IS HAPPENING. The pic includes Carson, Pieterse, and Parrish, as well as PLL executive producer I. Marlene King (yass ladies behind the scenes!).

The Perfectionists is based on another book series by Sara Shepard (the author behind Pretty Little Liars) and follows Pieterse and Parrish’s characters, Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal, respectively. Carson plays a blogger and coder named Ava trying to break into the world of fashion.
The spinoff is set in a town called Beacon Heights, where the residents’s obsession with perfection drives lying, alibis, and murder. It seems like the show is going to have a lot to say about the modern young person’s pressure to be perfect, and the dangers of expecting perfection out of yourself and others.
Karey Burke, executive vice president of program and development of PLL’s home network Freeform, said, “Pretty Little Liars was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more.”
We only have these pics to tide us over for now, but re-watching PLL on Netflix will be enough until Perfectionists comes out, right?
