Somehow, it’s already August. The salt air (I know the Swifties know what I’m talking about) is ever present, the back-to-school rush is starting to kick in, and most importantly, my TikTok FYP is starting to fill up with Bama Rush content. Specifically, rush bags — and what Bama Rush PNMs have in their rush bag.
While I don’t go back to school for another month, many colleges and universities start their academic years within the next few weeks. One school that is sure to grab my attention every year is the University of Alabama (Bama). If you’re wondering why, it’s because of rush season. And also, nosy people like me who are wondering what PNMs actually put in their rush bags for long days of sorority recruitment.
My school does not have Greek Life and it’s not something I have ever seen myself doing, but I could (and I have) spend hours watching Bama Rush videos on TikTok. PNMs (potential new members) share their sorority recruitment experience, outfits, rush bags, goals, and so much more on TikTok and it is quite the attention-grabber. Even if you don’t watch these videos regularly, you most definitely saw #BamaRush videos over the past couple of years on TikTok. Rush bags on TikTok, however, are some of the most popular videos on the app relating to recruitment— I seriously cannot stop watching them
Over the past week or so, Bama Rush PNMs have been sharing “What’s In My Rush Bag?” videos on TikTok. Essentially, a “rush bag” is all the essentials you need for rush week. Think snacks, a journal, a water bottle, your makeup bag, and more. However, these girls go the extra mile and truly make sure they won’t forget a thing in their rush bags for recruitment week.
In honor of Bama Rush season (and any sorority rush for that matter!), I’ve done a “deep dive” into these TikToks to give you a rundown of what’s in these rush bags.
The rush Bag Is Important.
Forget worrying about everything you need to put inside the bag, the bag itself is the star of the show here. PNMs are using tote bags, overnight bags, and customized monogrammed bags — it’s like an unofficial uniform. These bags are quite spacious and fit a lot. And let me tell you, these PNMs don’t let a single square inch of that bag go to waste.
PNMs also Need A Good Water Bottle.
I love my emotional support water bottle and so do the Bama Rush PNMs. Making sure to stay extra hydrated during rush week is super important!
Oh, and a Makeup Bag (or two, or three, I don’t make the rules).
Or should I say, makeup pouch? These PNMs are putting every essential you could think of in their makeup bags or pouches, like dry shampoo, mascara, makeup remover wipes, and claw clips.
While there are plenty of other things PNMs put in their rush bag, these seem to be the most important and common ones. I’m not rushing this year, but I definitely have some more inspo on what essentials to pack for my next girl’s weekend or vacation.
