Less than a Day…
I’m literally counting down the hours until I head to the airport. For me, the days leading up to trips are always the most exciting…mainly because they’re dripping with anticipation of what’s to come. The ride to the airport is a noteworthy one, marking the last moments before we take off!
To be honest, most of my friends dread airports. Then again, who can blame them? From long lines to stuffy baggage claims, many aspects aren’t exactly ideal. But I’m a little weird when it comes to that sort of thing. You see, I can’t get enough of the crowded terminals, predictable souvenir shops, and tight-lipped security officials that make up the heart of airports. Because when you really think about it, the crowded terminals are filled with inspired travelers and their loved ones, eager to see new parts of the world. And those predictable souvenir shops supply some of the greatest treasures one can find. Whether it’s a deck of cards for the plane ride home, or a t-shirt that screams “tourist,” these shops carry items that will serve as quirky mementos for years to come. And as for those tight-lipped security officials? They’re just doing their job, trying to keep us safe. So maybe they’re a little grumpy. But who wouldn’t be after working all night with nothing but the mild luxury of a short break & a cup of McDonald’s coffee?
It may sound a little cheesy, but I take comfort in these minor details. To me, all of these elements are part of the essence of travel.
A Word on Packing…
So far, I have edited, revised, and rewritten my packing list more times than your average term paper. Usually, I end up tossing my belongings into a bag without giving it much thought. This routine has worked out surprisingly pretty well for me in the past…
After taking many trips with nothing but a small suitcase and my passport, I’d like to think that I’m a pretty seasoned packer. But you see, even us “seasoned packers” could use some help in our own department. No matter how many times I try, I always end up bringing more that I really need. My goal is to one-day break the habit for good! But until I master this coveted skill, I will try and try again.
With this goal in mind, I thought it would be helpful to bring some sort of organization to my packing process. As of now, I am planning on a neutral palette with a few pops of color here and there. In other words, the bulk of my wardrobe will consist of neutral-toned pieces, allowing me to play up my outfits with standout accessories in bright hues and cool patterns. I was actually inspired by a magazine article, whose well-travelled author seemed like a reliable source. As a diehard fan of packing light, it seems like a pretty good strategy to me. I am determined to explore Europe without bringing my closet along for the ride. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on how this works out!
