HC Abroad: Longing for London

¡Hola Bonitas!

¡Necesito practicar mi español para España! I’m currently on my way to Barcelona, Spain and then to Venice, Italy. From Venice we will be doing a day trip to Verona, then going to Milan, then to Florence with a day trip to Tuscany, and then on down to spend Easter in Rome! It’s going to be a crazy ten day break but I’m pumped! I’ve always wanted to go to both of these countries so I know it’s going to be amazing!

I’ll return April 8th and regale you with my adventures Friday April 13th!

Aside from these exciting things, it has come to my attention, and to the attention of all my housemates, that upon returning to London in April we will have about three or four weeks left. Cue the yelling and sad looks at everyone. So trying to be positive my RA decided to have us talk about what we all still wanted to do in London and surprisingly we all have similar things.

On my personal list I would still like to do the Tower of London and the London Bridge. I would also like to visit Cambridge and Oxford and I NEED an Oxford sweatshirt. I would also like to see Wicked on the West End, but I’m not sure how realistic that is. It’s something I will look into when I get back.

I also need to see JUDE LAW. It seems like my whole house has seen him but meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. He lives down the friggen street! I would post a note on his door telling him to come visit our house but apparently that is creepy? I’m starting to get desperate. And if I don’t see Jude then I need to make some friends, like real London friends. We have had a rather difficult time meeting people outside of the house.

Don’t get me wrong, we meet a lot of people and do a lot of things but it’s been a busy semester. I just got done doing a paper a week for 6 weeks. My university doesn’t understand giving the students a break while they are abroad. It also seems that we are going to all the wrong places. It’s sort of hard to make friends at a club because, well, you don’t really talk in a club. And I’m not totally convinced people are looking for friends in clubs haha. However there is some hope! There might be a potential friend, I’m going to try to set up a coffee date or something.

I guess being on a countdown to home is kind of a good thing because it is really going to kick us into gear. Forget leaving things until the weekend, I’m going to start jam-packing the weekdays too. I’m going to go see as much as I can see. Who needs sleep? I’ll sleep when I get back to America!

I’ve really grown attached to the 14 people in the house. We are a little, well I guess quite large, family. We will walk around in groups of like 6 and go, “Wow where is everyone?” It’s going to be extremely strange to go home and not have this many people around the house. As much as we are in each other’s space and business we have managed quite well as a house. There is no privacy and we like to bother each other as much as possible. Living with them has been a fantastic experience. I’m so glad I decided to go on a Wake program.

So I’m going to stop before I work myself back into a rut and think about this break and all the things I still have left to do!

Expect some good stories when I return!

Have a great 10 days without me,

Paige
