HC Abroad: A Nice Day for Bath!

Hello Collegiettes!

Just over a month is left here in London, and it is all becoming extremely bittersweet. While I do miss my friends and family from home and from Fordham a lot, I also have fallen in love with London and it is going to be terribly hard to leave.  But I am still here, leaving a bucket list full of things I still need to see, and spontaneous experiences waiting to happen!

This past weekend I did a day trip to Bath and Avebury. The Jane Austen lover in me squealed as we passed through rolling green hills, and Victorian mansions that conjure perfect images for my fantasy life complete with my very own Mr. Darcy… This fantasy was only solidified as our tour guide point out Jane Austen’s home in Bath as we made our way to the center of the city. Back in reality, Bath is one of the most incredibly beautiful cities I have ever seen. I would honestly spend my whole life there if I could. We started our day by touring the famous Roman baths that were built over 2,000 years ago. After seeing the Baths and touring the museum, My friends and I ventured to explore this architectural gem of a city. We got some ham and brie sandwiches at a local deli and walked to beautiful park on the river that was flooded with people enjoying the sunshine and the vibrant flowers that had abundantly started to blossom.  After lunch we walked around the city a little more and toured the old Victorian market that lies at its center.  To end our stay we got some fudge for the road and made our way to Avebury.

Avebury, second to Stonehenge, is one of the most well-known stone circle monuments in England.  This stone circle was constructed about 5,000 years ago. The field itself was a beautiful vast area of green, complete small steep hills that groups of children rolled down in fits of smiles and giggles while we were there. While it was a relaxing atmosphere, we were all kind of tired and sad we didn’t have more time in Bath.

Sunday, another day that continued the beautiful sun and warmth here in London, my friends and I went to Spitifield market—which is huge. We were immediately met by rows and rows of clothing, accessories, food, and so on.  It was a lot to take in, and after almost three hours we still hadn’t seen every booth at the market.

Last night I saw another show for my theatre class titled Can We Talk About This? A very unique and thought provoking performance.  The play brings up questions of multiculturalism and the negative impact it can and is having on British society, specifically in relation it Islamic culture.  The way in which this show was unique in many forms including that movement and physical contortion was in constant by all the actors in the performance to enhance the stories being told.

This weekend one of my roommates from Fordham (Other Emily) is coming to visit from Edinburgh! So I am very excited for that, but I am also stressed as my main assignment for my journalism internship seminar is due the day she leaves! Next week my friend Maria is also coming to London and we will be going to Paris! So I look forward to telling you guys about those adventures!

Until Next Time,
Emily
