It’s about two weeks into July and I’ve realized that I probably had to try the Tie-Dye Frappuccino from our beloved Starbucks before it leaves stores. TBH, I’m a little confused as to why the blended unicorn nectar is coming out now, in July, not June (AKA, Pride Month), but I guess Starbucks decided to keep the rainbow theme rolling with their new drink. We all love a rainbow moment. So today, I decided to venture to Starbucks pick up one of my own.
From the outside, it is beautiful. Definitely gives off the picturesque summer aesthetic we all want with the yellow, blue, and green mixture shining through the cup. The whipped topping is just the cutest, as the baristas douse it in every color you can imagine, with what looks like fairy dust. Okay, now for the taste test (drumroll, please).
Honestly, the flavor kind of hit me in the face at first sip. The sugar entered my veins instantly and I can attest that I am currently experiencing a sugar high (not mad though). I’m getting banana vibes, maybe some Laffy Taffy essence, and finally a swirl and slight crunch of Pixy Stix. It is currently 10 in the morning and I may be shaking a small bit. I can’t tell if I love it or hate it or am just really jittery; I’ve gotta let the flavors mingle.
I let a few HC editors take a sip and give me their first thoughts and reactions:
Gina, Beauty Editor: “So I actually loved it? It’s not cute, but it totally satiated my morning craving for sugary milk slush.”
I couldn’t agree more, Gina.
Felicity, Assistant Editor: “Um, woah, okay. Honestly, it’s better than I thought, but the overwhelming taste of banana is a no-go from me. I feel like out of all of the latest Frappuccinos that Starbucks has been concocting, this one is the least chaotic evil. It’s sweet but not disgustingly sweet, and I’ll admit that the colors are really cute.”
Preach, sister.
Edel, Social Video Editor: “Honestly, it wasn’t terrible. I like it better than cotton candy flavored desserts. It for sure tasted like something you would get at a carnival. I mean if I was a kid who was a sugar fiend, I’d drink this like I drink matcha oat milk lattes. Would I order it at local Starbs? Probably not, but I’m glad I tried it.”
So Gina thinks it’s cute, Felicity disagrees, and Edel is in the middle. The taste is on point for Gina and Felicity is unsure about the overwhelming banana flavor in the banana-less milkshake. Edel prob wouldn’t order it on her own but is kind of vibing the sugar content.
We’ve got some split opinions over here at the Her Campus HQ. Love it? Hate it? That’s for you to decide. But hurry — they won’t be here for long. If you’re bored on a Saturday or packing up for a beach trip, grab one on your way out and do a taste test with friends and capture your reactions (and psssst, tag us on @HerCampusFoodie with your tie-dye frap shots).
