Urban Getaway
If you’re in the New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., or Boston areas, check out Urban Escapes. HC writer Betty Jin says it’s the best way to get out and be active. The company is “redefining social adventure for young professionals.” It supports an active lifestyle and a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. The trips include paintball, river tubing, kayaking, rock climbing, shooting ranges, whitewater rafting, hiking, and more and range in price from $10 to $250. They also often include pit stops for beer tasting and wine stops. Urban Escapes has group rates for you and your friends!
Rock Around the Clock
Want to take a two, two and a half hour trip from Philly? Check out the Rock and Roll Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. HC writer Elyssa Goodman took a trip there recently and said, “IT’S AWESOME!” The museum opened in 1995 and is located on the shores of Lake Erie. Their web site offers many options on tickets, directions, group tours, accessibility and places to stay. The museum has many exhibits on the various roots and history of rock and roll and soul music.
Become a Mall Rat
If you’re in the D.C. area check out the downtown mall area. It’s covered in free museums from the Air and Space to the National Gallery of Art. The mall area could easily cover the span of a very full day or an exciting weekend. HC writer Carlene Helble suggests using D.C.’s metro system to get around if you want to take side trips in D.C.
Hit the Harbor
If you’re in the New England area HC writer Stephanie Kaplan suggests taking a trip to a beach town like Rockport, MA. Shop, take pictures, and eat “the best seafood” on your weekend away. Rockport’s web site offers many suggestions on how to have a fun weekend. Coming up between June 17 and July 3 the Gloucester Stage has a production of Table Manners and Cape Ann is offering an Artisans Studio Tour giving you the chance to meet 15 professional artists and see their work and studios.
Upping the Ante
You could also get away for the weekend at a spa or even go to New England’s famous Mohegan Sun. This casino also offers dining, hotel accommodations, shopping, live entertainment and sporting events. It hosts live concerts and has three casinos total. So leave the real world and travel to paradise for the weekend. Their casino package comes to $99 per night, but who knows, you could win it all back!
Whatever you do, get out of the house! If you’re working on a budget there’s a great series of books called Let’s Go! that offer the best places to site-see on a budget. Whatever you do, enjoy your summer and live it up to the fullest. Who knows when you’ll get the chance to do it again!
