5 Ways to Eat Avocado (That’s Not Just On Toast)

Oh, avocado toast. This delicious and nutritious food trend has been sweeping the nation for, like, years now and it’s not hard to understand why. It’s a classic breakfast, snack, or even dinner. Plus, avocado toast is healthy, easy to make, and actually fills you up. Not to mention, it’s a totally Insta-worthy snack.

But avocados are good for more than just toast. If you’re willing to ditch the delicious bread, the savory fruit can be enjoyed in salads, smoothies, and even in dessert! Here are five ways to incorporate more avo into your diet.

Add a new flavor to your salad

Avocados are delicious in just about any salad. Toss your avo with lettuce and tomatoes to enjoy a classic recipe, or drizzle some balsamic on top of avocado and other veggies for a delicious and light snack. I’d suggest even adding the avocado straight into the dressing to enjoy the flavor with every bite. No matter what salad combo you go with, it’s sure to be healthy and totally delicious.

Mix a unique guac

Here’s an obvious one: turn your avocados into delicious guacamole! Guacamole is super easy to make, and there are a bunch of different recipes you can try. Usually, guacamole is made with avocado, tomato, cilantro, and corn, but feel free to go crazy and add your own take to the classic recipe.

If you’re feeling a little bored with the classic guac, try adding cheese, sundried tomatoes, or even bacon. You can even spread the guac on a grilled cheese or any other type of sandwich to add an extra flavor. Trust me, there is no way to do guac wrong.

Shake up your smoothies and milkshakes

Add a little green to your daily drink by including avocados in your smoothies or shakes. Believe it or not, avocados pair great with a lot of other fruits including blueberries, bananas, pineapple and coconut. There are tons of recipes out there if you’re looking for a way to add some green to your shake.

Aside from being delicious, avocado has a bunch of great nutritional properties and benefits for your hair and skin. Adding some avocado to your beverage is a tasty way to take advantage of those perks even when you’re not eating a full meal.

Sneak some green into your desserts

Stay with me here, because avocado is just as wonderful in desserts as it is in savory food too. Avocado is particularly perfect in vegan desserts as an alternative for eggs or other dairy products to still get that creamy texture. But avocados can be enjoyed in desert for non-vegans too! Avo fudge bars are absolutely delicious, and avocado also adds a crazy yummy flavor to an olive oil cake. It can also be used to make cupakes, or even popsicles. Add avocados to your cakes, puddings, and other pastries for a healthier way to satisfy any sweet craving you may have.

Enjoy your avo on it’s own

Honestly, why mess with a classic? If all else fails, enjoy your avocado on its own! Add some salt and pepper to taste, or olive oil to add another fat. Just grab a fork and enjoy.

Whether they’re in smoothies, salad or even desert, avocados are always delicious. You may want to stop by Trader Joe’s and stock up –– and if you keep eating your avo on toast, we won’t tell.
