Since Romney’s comments about PBS and Big Bird during the first presidential debate on Oct. 3, costume shops across the nation have been selling out of Big Bird costumes – for adults. As hilarious as we think the costume is, we wanted to help collegiettes create the costume themselves.
Get a pair of orange knee high socks and trim them with pink lining every few inches for Big Bird’s legs and feet. Pull out everything and anything you own in yellow and pick and choose from those pieces for the 8-foot tall bird. A common choice is a yellow skirt with a yellow shirt.
To prevent your costume from coming off as a declaration for all things yellow, print out a picture of Big Bird’s face and attach it to a headband that you are comfortable wearing all night.
Now for the political twist!
Get an old piece of cardboard and write “WILL WORK FOR FOOD” in black Sharpie. Instead of having to hold it up all night, hang it around your neck with lanyard or string.
And voila, you’ve got your own Big Bird costume, made with items straight from your closet!
