Her Campus met up with 21 year old third year Law student William Wallace who is somewhat of a celebrity in law circles. After running for the position of first year class rep back in 2011 Will was keen to join the society so that he could be a position with responsibility, do some public speaking and also do something different. However, Her Campus insider information also tells us those Law society nights out are infamously messy, which may have perhaps been a confounding factor for Will. Despite doing a classic first year, âwing itâ speech with only lasted about two minutes, most of which he spent trying to figure out how to use the microphone, law students fell for this respectable young man of 18 and voted him as their representative.
Thank goodness they did! Two years on, Will is now in the responsible position of Law Society Treasurer. Yes, heâs all grown up now! Willâs main jobs are ensuring everything is paid for and making sure sponsorship money has been paid. He also lends a helping hand to organising those previously described messy nights out, showing law applicants around the campus and helping at academic events. Will shall also be running for the top job of Law Society president later this month. Despite this typically being a position for somebody in their Diploma year, Will is taking this in his stride and being top dog in his fourth year. Her Campus has their fingers crossed for you Will!
Although doing a law degree, after asking Will if he wants to continue into a career in law he was quite hesitant. He said that he did work experience with a law firm that he found interesting and enjoyable but stressful. He explained that he wasnât quite sure if he fancied a profession that was stressful. Will still isnât 100% sure on his career path so he could still be a rock star of the futureâŠ
Now how could we do an interview with William Wallace without mentioning that fantastic name? Knowing that it has been tradition in his family to call their first son William our celebrity has just got used to his famous name. With most people firstly not believing Will after he introduces himself, he admits that the same reaction occurs every time and now he just zones out until people have finished gasping. Although he does not like to think that his name helps him have a head start, he said that it probably does help. William Wallace has met a real life Robert Bruce though⊠which is pretty cool.
With there being a lot of press on the September referendum on Independence, Her Campus wanted to know what The William Wallace, saviour of the Scots thinks about the whole topic. Will was not surprised that this topic came up in conversation. He said that he thinks the likelihood of a yes vote looks pretty slim at the moment and he has heard a lot of arguments from both sides of the debate. He feels that there is no definite evidence for either side but is more likely to vote yes in September. He admits that despite this he would feel indifferent if the result is a no vote since Scotland will receive more political power anyway. Will also explains that he would probably prefer a two question referendum, in which he would vote devo max so that Scotland can make some sort of plan and have a referendum in the future.Â
