Buzzfeed Unsolved
Do you enjoy creepy supernatural events? Maybe you’re a fan of true crime? Well, I’m happy to say I have found your next obsession.
Meet Ryan Bergara, a 26-year-old video producer at Buzzfeed and self-proclaimed world’s worst detective/ghosthunter and his friend, the 31-year-old critic Shane Madej, another Buzzfeed producer and a half-hearted ghost hunter.
Together these two men make up the duo that is Buzzfeed Unsolved. They investigate chilling evidence surrounding unsolved events. It began in 2016 with the topics focusing on supernatural cases where they would travel to paranormal locations to investigate the claims being made. Highlights from this season include the chilling exorcism of Anneliese Michel and 3 horrifying cases of Ghosts and Demons.
Ryan is a true believer in all things supernatural, one of his best moments is when he brings some holy water along with him on a case. Whereas Shane is a true sceptic that usually taunts any supernatural being that might be out there (much to Ryan’s dismay). Shane’s sarcastic mannerisms have even led him to develop a fan base called Shaniacs, so fans can now say whether they are a true shaniac or not.
However, if you need a break from the supernatural but not Buzzfeed Unsolved: fear not, as they also have a True Crime series too. Ryan and Shane investigate a variety of crimes that to this day have remained unsolved. One of the most disturbing episodes from season 1 is The Bizarre Death of Elisa Lam.
Ryan reads out the facts of each case and then hypothesizes popular theories that have developed surrounding the unsolved mysteries. If you become an avid fan (like myself) you will find yourself determining which theory makes logical sense if you’re a Shaniac or if you find that you agree with Ryan more then you’ll begin thinking about the bizarre facts that might just be true…
Think you want to give it a go? Head over to either the supernatural or the true crime episode, then take this quiz to see whether you are more like Ryan or Shane!
