Position: Vice-PR Secretary
Hey Meridyth! First off Welcome to the committee it’s great to have you apart of it, we’re wanting to find a bit more about you so..how are you enjoying being part of the committee so far?
So far so good! Everyone’s been really welcoming, helpful and supportive! I’m really looking forward to being able to work with everyone!
We’re so glad you’re enjoying it so far! How has your university experience been and what are you enjoying most?
It’s been a mix of excitement and stress, all those deadlines, ew! But I’ve got great friends, the HC gals are amazing – not to mention the socials! To our readers – if you ever have the opportunity to come on an HC pub crawl then do it! Our social secs know exactly what they’re doing!
I think our socials are a highlight of this year, they’ve been great!! (Shout out to our social secs!!) What made you join HerCampus and how are you enjoying it?
I really wanted somewhere to express my thoughts, feelings, and opinions, and to be able to explore another side of myself. And I thought that HCAU was the perfect place to do that! Everyone here is so supportive and encouraging, so not only does it provide an opportunity to get to know myself better, but I also get to learn from all of these other incredible people too! Not to mention the socials are brilliant….have I mentioned that yet?
I think you’ve maybe mentioned it once or twice! What made you go for the position of Vice-PR and any sneak-peaks of ideas that you have?
When the position first became available I really didn’t think much about it, it wasn’t one of the positions that I originally saw myself in. But then someone suggested I apply, so I thought about it, and then I thought some more and the more that I thought about it the more I wanted it. Have you ever seen The Bold Type? There’s a character in it called Kat who heads PR for a magazine, so when I thought about the position, I thought of her and I became so inspired! That’s when I knew I had to apply. Also, I spent months wishing I could see the Instagram analytics so it was really a sign!
I think we all know about your love your analytics. It’s been something I’ve learned from you this term! What has been your favourite thing to do since you’ve joined the committee and HerCampus and what’s the thing you’re most looking forward too?
Since joining the committee my favourite thing has been Instagram, it’s allowed me to become really creative and challenge myself. That may sound weird because Instagram is just posting pics, right? Sort of, but it’s also a lot more! It’s about creating good content that people will enjoy and will bring them back. Since starting I’ve been trying to be more creative and use iMovie to promote articles on the story – this has become a recent obsession.
And honestly, I’m most looking forward to all the things we’ve got planned! I feel like we’ve already changed the Instagram so much, and the more we can make HerCampus feel like a person than a brand the better, we’ve got so many ideas to change how we promote articles and get people more involved, so stay tuned to our social media to see that, when it all comes out!
I’ve also loved writing articles and meeting all of these incredible people, and I’m proud to say that they’re becoming some of my closest friends.
You have some amazing ideas and I can’t wait to see more of them! What’s been your highlight since you came to Aberdeen University?
I’ve loved learning more about psychology, and Her Campus has been a real blessing, but my highlight since joining has to be the people I’ve met. I was lucky enough last year in Hillhead to be given the best three flatmates a girl could ask for, all of whom I’m still great friends with! These girls completely changed my life and I love them so much for it! Then this year, I got to meet even more amazing people at Her Campus, who I’ve become fast friends with! The people you meet in uni are some of the best you’ll ever meet and I’m just really happy that I met them.
We’re so glad you’ve got amazing friends around you! What’s one thing that we don’t know about you?
Oooh, that’s a tough one! Bit random, but I don’t make Spotify playlists. I just add songs I like to my library and watch last week’s fav tunes get lost in an ocean of ‘oh I forgot about that song!’ and ‘Why did I even download that?’
