7 Quotes to Motivate You This Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Whether you’re reading this on a Monday or Friday, let these quotes motivate you to live your best life.

“If you want something, go get it. Period.”

This quote is my life motto. We let so many opportunities pass us by when we over-think or let others convince us that we can’t have what we want. If you know what you want, go get it. There’s no excuses or good reasons as to why you can’t have it. The path you need to take to get there may be bumpy, or slippery, or unforeseeable – but there’s always a path. Don’t get in your own way; make that decision to take what’s yours. Period.

“Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

“What if I suck at this? What if I don’t get hired? What if they don’t like me? What if, what if, what if…” We focus on the outcome of our actions a lot. Sometimes that’s a good thing. But other times it can take away from the joy of enjoying life’s opportunities, challenges, and adrenaline-inducing moments. Don’t let worrisome thoughts of what could go wrong stifle you from doing what you want in the first place. Try that new thing, apply for that job, ask that person out, and do anything else that excites you.

“Don’t call it a dream, call it a plan.”

Picture what you’d like your life to be like. What do you want? Visualize it. Think big; don’t limit yourself or your success in any way. Now think even bigger. Once you’ve got that picture in your mind, stop. It’s time to start planning. Whatever you can visualize in your head – whatever “dream” you can come up with – no matter how big it is, can become your reality. The first step in making it a reality is seeing it as reality. Not a dream, or something meant to live only in your mind. There’s nothing you can think that can’t be done. There’s no life you can create in your mind that you can’t live. Find that vision of yours and make it your personal, real plan. You deserve it.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”

One thing I love about this quote is the acknowledgment that although you may be fearful, or fear may be part of the experience you’re in, there’s something more powerful than that. Fear does not have the power to paralyze us when we find something else is much more important. That’s what courage is. Courage can be seen in different ways. It’s courageous to speak out and act against abuse, or bullying. It’s also courageous to seek help when you need it. Having courage doesn’t mean you’re not afraid – but instead it’s the decision that there’s something more important than the fear you feel in the moment.

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”

You know those posters in your old high school classroom that were all like, “Believe in yourself!”? Well, they were right. As much as they were cheesy, they were full of truth. Believing in yourself and your abilities are some of the most powerful things you can do. What you believe manifests itself, reinforcing what you believed in the first place. The biggest block that stands in the way of you doing something is the belief that you can’t do it in the first place. You can do whatever you put your mind to. Always remember that.

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

We really only have control over one thing in our lives – ourselves. This truth can be frustrating at times, especially when things don’t go the way they were supposed to. The beauty of being able to control ourselves is that no matter what happens, we can decide to not let those things take over our emotions and thoughts. We don’t have to be reduced by what happens to us. Instead of being reactive to what happens in our lives, and just taking in what comes, we can choose to be proactive. We can acknowledge what has happened, and use what we felt or learned from that experience towards our growth and progress. We have that power, and it’s wonderful.

“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”

Another quote I live by. You can’t move forward if you stand still. If what you want is something you’ve never had before, you won’t get it by doing the same things you’re doing now. Switch things up, take a leap of faith, and see how your change attracts the change you want.

I find that quotes are so powerful. They serve as beautiful mantras that can motivate and push you when you need it the most. Find your mantra, find your motivation. Create the life you want to live; you deserve it.

Hi, I'm Alexis! I'm a senior Communications major with a journalism concentration, and I'm an editor and campus co-coordinator for our Adelphi chapter of Her Campus! After graduating, I hope to write for news organizations that cover important social and humanitarian issues in our political sphere and in the global community. Other than writing, I enjoy reading, napping, and sightseeing. One fun fact about me is that I'm left-handed, which means I'm more likely to become President! I mainly write political content relating to the most current issues facing our country and the world.
