Commuting to college is something that not everyone experiences. While a lot of students live right on campus, many of Adelphi’s students commute back and forth to campus whether by driving, biking, or taking public transportation. As a commuter myself, I give us commuters a lot of credit for making the trek each day to campus. In honor of commuter appreciation week, which is all this week, I recently asked real Adelphi commuter students, what their biggest struggle with commuting was. I got answers that ranged from “not having a place to nap” to “paying for gas” to “not having my own room to go to between classes”. But by far, the answer that I got the most was the parking situation. Now I know that parking can be tough sometimes, especially with the construction that’s going on. But have no fear, Adelphi commuters, because with all of this new construction comes new parking! When the construction of the Nexus building concludes next year, there is going to be another parking lot in addition to another below-grade parking lot. That’s a whole lot of brand new parking opening up! All in all, commuting is a pretty sweet deal; we get to have all the fun at college and still go home to our own beds. Take some time to appreciate a commuter student that you know this week, and enjoy the rest of your commuter appreciation week!
