The Emmy’s What You Missed and Who Won Big

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

September 18, 2016 was one of the biggest night for television. The 68th Emmy awards premiered at 7pm eastern. The television stars come out to this big event looking mroe glam than ever. The ladies wear their beautiful gowns and the men wear their designer suits and ties.

We loved and wished we could be there for these Emmys Most Notable Moments:

  • The children of stranger things covered Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” in the Emmy’s pre-show

  • Jimmy Kimmel thanks Mark Burnett for the rise of Donald Trump saying “Thanks to Mark Burnett we don’t have to watch reality shows anymore because now we’re living in one.”
  • Sarah Paulson brings the actual Marcia Clark to the awards show and when she accepts the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, where she publicly apologizes to her for judging her.
  • Jimmy Kimmel’s mother made Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches  and personal messages for the audience
  • Matt Damon came on stage and gave Jimmy Kimmel beef for not winning the “Outstanding Variety Talk Series” award.
  • Both Jeffrey Tambor and Laverne Cox urge those who work behind the screen to tell more transgender stories.
  • This Year’s red carpet is the longest in Emmy History at 1325 ft. It is meant to reflect the rapidly expanding television landscape

A night of wining and jokes all in good humor and all those who won rightfully deserved it. The biggest thing we must take away from awards shows like this is that this is the ‘golden age for television’ and shows will only get better.

Hi, I'm Kait. I am currently a senior at Adelphi University and I am a Communications Major with a concentration in Digital Media and Cinema Studies. I love writing and have written stories ever since I was a little girl. Once I graduate from Adelphi University I hope to become a screenwriter working for film or television. But until then you'll see me socializing with my friends and family, studying for the next exam, or writing my scripts in the library.
