Dating. For some, a scary, six lettered word. For others, it’s as easy as breathing. We all remember what dating was like in high school. Lots of cute handholding, Starbucks dates, and good-humored teasing from friends. How does college change things? On one hand, it doesn’t! Walk around any campus in the U.S. and you will find a lot of the same things you would find in high school. At Adelphi, you can see couples cozied up at the Underground café, blocking walkways, and just generally scattered EVERYWHERE with one another. And the friends are still there, as teasing as ever!
The main differences come in different forms. You might be living just a few rooms away from your significant other, compared to a few miles! College also comes with a greater work-load, meaning your time with your SO might be limited in ways you didn’t expect. It’s important to remember why you attend college in the first place (HINT: not to meet a potential husband/wife!). You have to remember to keep your priorities in order when dating in college, making sure that what is most important to you is what you focus on. If that means your SO is on the top of that list, that’s OK too! Just keep in mind every other activity college has to offer as well!
My advice? You do you. Don’t worry about finding “the one” and don’t go crazy when you think you have found them! Just be yourself, and enjoy the ride, especially if there is someone by your side!
