Meet Maria Mir, ’20

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Agnes Scott chapter.

As many encounters start off these days, I was first introduced to Maria via social media. We ended up following each other on Twitter before the beginning of the school year. To say the least, I found her to be quite interesting from the types of tweets she posted and I also could not stop admiring her bomb.com selfies! Meeting her in person was equally as interesting–she’s one of the most chill, yet fun people I have met.

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Favorite Food: Chicken Biryani

Least Favorite Food: Steamed broccoli

Your favorite song right now: Best I Ever Had by Drake

Relationship Status: Single

Last Good Movie You Saw: Kal Ho Na Ho

Major/Minor: Undeclared

HC: How often do people mispronounce your name?

MM: Just about every day. It’s spelled like Maria but pronounced like MAR-ree-ah.

HC: What did you do for Halloween?

MM: A friend was visiting Atlanta from out of town so I had a relaxing night with a few close friends.

HC: What made you choose Agnes?

MM: The diversity on campus was a major factor that contributed to my choice to attend Agnes. Additionally, I felt that it was the right fit for me as a small liberal arts college with small classes, allowing me to get individualized attention from my professors.

HC: What has been your favorite thing about attending Agnes so far? Your least favorite?

MM: I love the variety of classes I can take, allowing me to be intellectually curious and explore several fields and majors. My least favorite thing would probably be that there is practically no social life. There isn’t much you can do on a Friday night on campus.

HC: Where are you going for your Journey’s trip? Are you excited?

MM: New York City. Yes! I haven’t ever been to NYC, and I’ve heard many great things about it; I can’t wait to explore the city with my fellow Scotties.

HC: Have you joined any clubs/organizations on campus?

MM: I joined the Muslim Student Association, Masala SACE and will soon join the Sociology/Anthropology club.

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

MM: I nap at every possible opportunity.

HC: If you were a rapper, what would your stage name be?

MM: It would be just my first name but spelled like Mariya so that people would pronounce it right.

HC: There are only two days left until the end of the world. What are you going to do with your limited time?

MM: I would probably go home to Florida and spend as much time with my family as possible.

HC: What is an interesting fact that no one else knows about you?

MM: I can rap the entire song “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller. Don’t ask me why. I have no idea.

HC: Choose two: Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat, or Twitter?

MM: Snapchat and Twitter.
