An Agnes Scott rendition of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
‘Twas the week before finals, when all through campus
The students looked for sleep, they needed a mattress.
The school glittered with red and gold tinsel,
In hope that the holidays would make the students cheerful.
The Scotties were nestled, cozied up in the library,
While visions of failing a course made them wary.
But President Kiss with her bright smile,
Had just given a speech to soothe us for a while.
When out on the quad there arose a few barks,
We sprang from our seats to see what was in the park.
Away to the door and down the stairs,
Students gathered outside with feet bare.
The afternoon light came trickling through the trees,
Gave us vision to the beauty beyond the freeze.
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But five, eight dogs, their barking we hear.
With a little love and a break now and then,
I knew in a moment we’d see the end,
More rapid than the dogs, how quickly it would come,
We whistled, we shouted, we couldn’t be glum.
Now, stress and finals and nights without sleep,
But soon we’d travel to freedom so deep.
At the top of our game, we study hard,
To earn our reward and leave the school yard.
We spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
And filled our heads with knowledge to finish our homework.
Laying our pencils aside to review the answers,
It was time to not look to the past with glances.
We spring from our seats and give loud shout,
Flying away, bags packed, it’s time, we’re out.
But all winter break, do you know the words we will think?
“Happy Holidays Dear Scotties, it’s time to close your eyes and into dreams sink.”
