What To NOT Bring With You To College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Agnes Scott chapter.

If you are an incoming college student, just completed your first year, or someone like me who has been in the game for a while (I’m a rising senior), who just can’t seem to figure out why you end packing so much stuff, this right here is for you. Don’t keep making the same mistake every year and haul all of this stuff that you wish you left at home. To save your energy, back, and yourself from your mother scolding at you trying to move it all in the car, here are 5 things that you should not bring to college.

  1. ALL of your clothes

You will not wear all of them. I repeat: You WILL NOT wear all of them. You will hate yourself when you have to figure out where to put them all. Just. Don’t.

  1. Books that you will have no time to read.

Do you know how many pages of text I’ve had to read through in college so far? By the time I’m done, I can barely pay attention to anything for more than two minutes. And with what time do will you actually have to read for fun?

  1. That one box of who knows what in your room.

That huge box sitting in the corner of your room that you just have to bring because you swear you will need something from it? I mean, you get a great workout from moving it, but seriously. Just leave it.

  1. Too many glass items.

Bring your favorite mug if you just have to, but I highly suggest limiting glass items. It’s just all too stressful to pack, try to remember where you packed it, and cleaning it up if you weren’t so careful.

  1. Too many decorations

When you become busy with assignments and extracurriculars, you will hardly notice the decorations in your room since you’ll almost always be taking a nap or finally getting some rest for the day.

With honorable mention:

  • 100% of your knitting stuff

This was a suggestion from my sister. She told me that those of you who knit would know what she’s talking about.

  • Feelings

Also a suggestion from a friend. Let those feelings die and start fresh! College is all about new experiences. Don’t let those old feeling bring you down!
