I know this may seem a bit cheesy and cliche, but I think now more than ever is the time to cherish the things in life that really matter. Amid the still-present pandemic and it’s uncertainties, it is important for me to take account of the beautiful things placed in my life to help me endure. Here is my list for this year’s season of gratitude:
- My Family
I am particularly grateful that my family has stayed safe amid COVID-19. I have a few family members that are especially vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 where it would become especially dangerous should they contract it. When I think back to last year and how bleak this situation with the pandemic looked and how I could not have my family visit me much, I am astonished at the change this year has brought about. As my family is fully vaccinated, we can now come together and enjoy spending time in each other’s company with less fear and concern about the virus.
- My Small Group
This year, I have had the pleasure of getting to know more individuals at my church through Campus Focus, a college ministry and student organization. I have grown closer to others in my small group through fun activities. More than that, my small group has given me people with whom I can grow spiritually. I think that it has been so important for me to have this opportunity, as I did not partake in small groups as much last year and missed out on this great community.
- My Writing Workshop Class
This class has been such a blessing. I have gained more courage to be honest and transparent in my writing. I have gained yet another community of people who wish to see me improve in my writing and are willing to give feedback that helps me to do so. I greatly appreciate their kindness, support, and thoughtfulness in the class!
- My Roommate
Last year during the fall semester, I was in a buyout dorm room. While I made some connections with other individuals in my dorm, I still felt very lonely. This year, one of the friends I made last year asked if I wanted to room with her. It has been great to have someone to confide in, comfort, and share a laugh with.
- Her Campus
Her Campus has been another great community to be involved in. It has given me so much joy to have a group to spend time with and socialize! I am so appreciative of the genuine support and kindness everyone has toward me and each other.
Everyone’s list may look different, but I hope everyone can find something in their lives that brings them joy in this season.
