It’s that time of year again, the time of loud chants, smiles until our cheeks hurt, and running home to your future sisters. Rush week = The Best Week. While some Universities call it rush, University of Akron simply calls it Primary Formal Recruitment. With it coming upon us in such a short time, you’re probably asking yourself so many questions. First thing is first, us Sorority girls are already as nervous as you. This is an exciting time for both you, rushing, and us, the actives. Here are some friendly tips to help you survive this fun weekend!
Tip #1: Be Yourself
Don’t try and act like someone you’re not, that’s not fair to you or the chapters you’re talking to. Recruitment should always be you being yourself. I know you’re going to want to impress everyone but it doesn’t work that way. Just by being yourself you’ll know where you belong.
Tip #2: Don’t Listen To The Rumors
There are so many rumours that go around about sororities, Greek life, and each chapter individually. When I was going through informal recruitment, I paid attention to the rumors and the stereotypes. Looking back at it now, I wish I would have ignored it and gave other chapters a true chance to get to know them. Wherever you fall in love, you’ll know. You will just know which girls are meant to be your sisters.
Tip #3: Have fun!
Yes, recruitment is nerve wracking, but it’s also extremely thrilling! You are joining an organization of women who will love and support you endlessly. Some of my best friends are from my chapter and from other greek chapters. Going through recruitment is finding a home away from home, where you find your people. It’s a fun experience and it’s something you’ll love if you join.
