Jojo Gomez is one of my favorite dance choreographers on social media (next to Zoi Tatoplous). Gomez is described as a “kinetic, animated dancer.” Her dances emanate both confidence and technicality.
Gomez has also worked alongside celebrities such as Tinashe, Justin Bieber and The Backstreet Boys.
Some of her influences were Britney Spears and Broadway.
Although Jojo Gomez currently has garnered a lot of attention through her dance classes posted on YouTube, her journey as a dancer was not easy. She sometimes faced criticism during her auditions about her weight.
According to Cosmopolitan, she said, “I had to constantly remind myself that I’m beautiful, this is the body that I have, and if I didn’t have this body, I wouldn’t be able to dance.”
In light of her experiences, however, she has became very vocal about body positivity and has paved her own way in the industry. It is clear from her performances that she supports and uplifts other women with her choreography.
One of my favorite performances of Jojo Gomez on Youtube is her performance of “Freakum Dress” by Beyonce. Her choreography is upbeat and energetic. She also has very emotionally powerful visuals and choreography, such as her performance of Billie Eilish’s song “Happier than Ever” which handles heavy topics such as domestic abuse.
Overall, Jojo Gomez is a powerful, well-rounded choreographer who can portray invigorating and uplifting songs just as well as heavy, emotional stories through dance.
