What clubs are you involved in?” My freshman year, I co-founded Alpha Mu Omega with six of my close friends. For those of you that do not know about Alpha Mu Omega, we are a Greek community service fraternity on campus. We are the first chapter anywhere and consist of over 100 members. This year I am the current President which has been an eye-opening experience. There is nothing like seeing how your hands-on service and fundraising affects the community around you. Also, to find other students on campus that share the same passion as you is truly a blessing. Along with Alpha Mu Omega, I am the Deputy Vice President of Student Affairs for the SGA, Philanthropy Chair for Cardinal Key, and Campus Relations Director for B+ Foundation at Alabama.”
What is your favorite part about your major? “Nursing is unlike any other major. We put our blood, sweat, and tears into our studies because we know one day it will be our job to help those that are suffering. At the end of the day, all I want to see is a glimpse of hope or a smile on a patient’s face. I would have to say my favorite part would be clinicals. The Capstone provides us a great opportunity to be in a hospital setting and get the hands-on experience we need to be able to succeed. The patients are why we are in this field.”
What is your favorite part about being in Tridelt? “My favorite part about Tri Delt is the bond we all share to help St. Jude Research Hospital. We promote a sisterhood that is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to our philanthropy. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences but the one thing that brings us all together is our love and passion for St. Jude. We strive to be the top fundraising chapter not for the title but for the lives those donations will touch. Each week during chapter, our philanthropy chair shows us a different patient video. Just in those five minutes, we all realize how lucky we all are and how blessed we are to be able to help such an incredible foundation.”
What has been the best class you have taken at UA so far? “The best class I have taken at Alabama thus far was a class through the Honors college, UH 105. It was a group of about ten of us that went to local public schools in the area and taught kids how to read. We were placed with either one or two children for the whole semester. To see the development of each child was an experience of a lifetime. I would recommend this class to every student. It is an eye-opener to see how blessed we all are because we had the privilege to be taught. We had the background we needed to go to college. Unfortunately, these students may not and possibly won’t have the chance to go to college.”
If your life were an ice cream flavor what would it be? “Neapolitan because I love variety and diversity. Variety is the spice of life. Without variety, life would be dull and you would not have the opportunity to learn from each other.”
Who is your celebrity crush? Harry Styles all day, every day.
What do you think is your best quality? “Optimism. I have always been known to take something bad and turn it into a positive. We never know when it is our last day on earth so why waste it being negative. I always say to live your life to the fullest.”
What’s the best advice you have ever gotten? “Always march to the beat of your own drum.”
Where do you see yourself in five years? “Once I graduate, I plan on being a traveling nurse for about two years. After that, I plan on going back to school to become a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Oncology. Then, I hope to work at St. Jude in Memphis or Sloan Kettering in New York. I hope to be surrounded by people that love me and have the same passion as I do. I want to live in a community where I build and raise a loving family.”
