This weekend, Alabama fans would agree that the Crimson Tide gave the MIzzou Tigers a proper Southern welcoming to the SEC. This welcome was a unique one based on the fact that the coaches of both teams go way back. Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel were former college football teammates at Kent State University. However, the relationship didn’t stop Saban from doing what Saban does best, and defensively dominating the opposing team.
In the beginning of the first hal
f, the Tide came out looking somewhat unbeatable. With Alabama running back Eddie Lacy taking the second play of the game to the house, with a 73-yard touchdown run. Following the impressive run of Lacy, Alabama sophomore defensive back Vinnie Sunseri intercepts two passes from Mizzou quarterback Corbin Berkstresser. Lacy is back at it again, capitalizing with another touchdown run.
#1 recruit in the freshmen class Landon Collins blocked a punt to help Alabama set up in the red zone. Another standout freshman, T.J. Yeldon, scored two back-to-back touchdowns to put Alabama up 27-0.
This was all before the rain delay.
Post lightning/rain delay, Jeremy Shelley kicked the extra point putting Alabama up 28-0, but then Mizzou came out with something to prove and the Tigers ran in for a 98-yard kickoff return.
That didn’t last long. Alabama totaled for 360 offensive yards, 321 of those 360 yards came from Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon alone.
It was a true Alabama welcome to the SEC.
Next weekend, the third weekend in October the #1 Alabama will go onto face the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville at 6 pm CT, on ESPN.
